: I read an article in the London Times recently (I am British) about belief in God. I was staggered to find that 93% of Americans believe in a "God of some sort". Why does the most technologically advanced country on earth have one of the highest beliefs in God? I would be interested to get native Americans' thoughts, especially skeptics. Is it because of religious education at school? Is it because of the nauseating propensity of US sports stars (and other icons) to put their successes down to God? Or something totally different?

I know people that are extremely intelligent, logical thinkers...but
they are Christian...why?-I don't know....I think it has to do with
aliens taking over certain parts of the mind.
Obviously people would like to believe in Heaven, a paradise...and
people would like to believe the world was made with love...and that
they have a purpose...and that the world has a purpose...So they do?
Maybe in America the percentage is so high because more people feel
they are empty or want a 'purpose' so instead of dealing with that
they find something (religion) to make them feel better, more secure.
